Deportation to Death is a linocut created in 1942 by Leopoldo Mendez, a defining figure in Mexican graphics art at the turn of the twentieth century. Through this artistic medium, Leopoldo vividly captures the raw emotions of the victims. In the image, a group of young women huddled together on the floor are fearfully staring out with wide eyes while a man in the middle is cradling a baby in his arms with resignation written across his face. Needless to say, this art piece presents a powerful dimension on Nazi oppression and victim’s desire and struggle for freedom and equality.
